The War Z

With the Walking Dead winning game of the year and not to mention the series along with the iconic and brilliant Comic Book, no wonder Zombies are in fashion. The War Z is a MMO where the player spawns with just flashlight, a granola bar, bandages and a can of (as the American’s call it) Soda, which add the need to survive in 400 square miles of lumps of towns and settlements along with natural wooded areas. War Z offers a real apocalypse with players having the ability to team up and help each other or go against each other creating a second enemy for yourself! which as I imagine people would react in a Zombie apocalypse, not trusting folk and what not!

Innovations in technology which might provide insight into how we will play games in
the future

With the release of Battlefield 3, gamers can enter an entirely new world of video games
that is dynamic and engaging in new ways. Battlefield 3 can now be used as a first person
shooter simulator, in which players can jump, crouch, and hold and fire a gun. So say goodbye
to long hours seated in front of the screen. With these new advances, Battlefield 3 highlights
some of the ways we could play our favorite games in the future.

How Does It Work?

The simulator makes use of the Igloo Vision Dome, which creates an enclosure where you
can project an HD image on the round roof for 360 degrees of video above. Then, with an omni-
directional treadmill, players can run and move around without running into the walls. The
walls also have 10 infrared tracking cameras that keep players from hitting the walls.

Lighting also plays a role. As the events on screen change, the lighting will also change
based on what is happening in the game, making you feel like you have crossed over into game
itself.

Finally, the game notes when a player gets hit by a bullet by means of a red flash on-screen,
which is recorded and the player is “wounded.” It’s even possible to set up paintball guns along
the edge of the walls to fire at a player if he or she gets hit by a bullet from the game.

Without a doubt, the simulator for Battlefield 3 will make players feel like they are serving
in active combat. It pushes the limits of contemporary gaming from tweaking the controls on a
handheld controller to actual full-body movement. It is an all-encompassing experience and will
most likely define the course of video gaming in the coming years.

Other Innovations

Changes toward making video gaming more interactive don’t stop there. Stereoscopic
gaming is also on the rise, where special glasses help create depth on the screen so that players

can experience the games on multiple levels. Unlike simple 3D graphics, stereoscopic gaming
glasses help the graphics actually pop out of the screen for many different layers of color and
action. While the simulator described above may be well out of the average gamer’s budget
right now, stereoscopic glasses are much more affordable, and no doubt gaming developers will
be creating more stereoscopic games in the future.

With these innovations on the horizon, it is clear that video gaming will become more
interactive and allow a wide-range of new actions. Playing a game will no longer entail
hours on the couch or sitting in front of the computer waiting for the pc games download. In the future, you many
not even need a computer anymore. Instead, you’ll feel like you’ve entered a fantasy world
in which you battle monsters and wizards with your own two hands, as well as all the wit and
strategy you used in your previous video games.

GTA V!

As promised earlier on today, we’ve found the new screen shots of Rockstar’s GTA V. And boy do they look awesome. Along with the images released is a whole lot of NEW information. And of course we’re more than happy to share that with you.

The images and info are taken from GameInformer, who got early and first journalist access to Rockstar to see the ‘Game of The Year 2013?’ last September/October. The digital magazine is on sale right now.

As you can tell from the images, Los Santos looks awesome. The action looks slick and if its anything to go by, Rockstar is about to land another Big game.

NEW Information:
Rockstar claim that the new Los Santos is the size of Red Dead Redemption, San Andreas and GTA IV all combined.. Wow!!
Three main characters, the image of them are on the cover of GameInformer and was posted on here earlier today. (from left to right above):

  • Trevor, a burned out trailer trash hick with constipation and a character described as “a deranged Dennis Hopper character”. He lives in Blaine County, a backwater desert region full of bikers and meth heads (the image of the Jet Ski)
  • Michael, a retired bank robber, “living a lavish lifestyle thanks to an unconventional deal with the FBI”. He and Trevor appear to be old friends.
  • Franklin, a repo man who hasn’t known the other two that long. First appears in Vespucci (Venice) Beach. (the guy who narrates from the first trailer)

You can switch between each of the characters at anytime using a radial dial you call up on screen. Outside of missions you’ll find them going about their daily business when left unattended. We’re told you might be “surprised by the situations they find themselves in” when you check back on them. Inside missions switching offers you different options. One example gives you the choice between flying a helicopter in a chase, firing at pursuing choppers from the back or sniping from a nearby building. While each character has their own story arc playing as one can affect the others. (Kind of reminds me of the LEGO games switching out to other characters to finish a mission. I’m a bit hasty about this swapping characters but it is Rockstar, I keep my faith in them.)

Other characters:

  • Lamar – “Franklin’s Crazy friend. Described as “a lunatic version” of the more “serious and ambitious” Franklin.
  • Jimmy – Michael’s son. “A whiney pot smoking 20-year-old kid”.
  • Ron -Trevor’s best friend. “A paranoid conspiracy theorist living in the next trailer”.
  • Amanda – Michael’s wife. He’s mistreated her in the past and they hate each other but are stuck together.

Each character has unique hobbies with Dan Houser talking of, “One or two key minigame activities per character”. Trevor will have access to planes “very early on”. Activities mentioned include, yoga, Triathlons, jet skiing, base jumping, bike riding, tennis and golf.

You can insult people. At one point Trevor flips the bird and you’ll get different reactions according to who you do it.

Ammu-Nation is back, the only named “familiar businesses” so far.

Planning and pulling off multi-stage heists are a large theme. Dan Houser talks about, “investing the story and design for some of the missions into making these built-out series of heists”.

One mission see the trio rescuing a hostage, Trevor flies the helicopter, Michael abseils down a building and Franklin provides sniper support from another building. When you smash through the window to grab the victim you’re shown an icon indicating you can switch mid-mission. You can stay as Micheal to fight it out close up, or change to Franklin to snipe from a distance.

There’s no RPG-style player customisation but you can customise a character’s clothing. There’s no romance this time. Partly due to the nature of the characters, and the complexity of having three on the go at once. There is an economy. No property but “loads of other stuff”. There will be random missions (like Red Dead Redemption) where you can stumble on things like broken down cars or hitchhikers, or two parked cars and “a sea of dead bodies”. You can then, “investigate if you want”.

Multiplayer is in but not being discussed yet.

In a nut shell it seems that Rockstar are doing a good job and the game should be one of the best to date. Knowing Rockstar games they’l be a lot more surprises in store for us.

This new screen shot has popped up online ahead of this afternoon’s big informational reveal which is due to start tonight around 5-ish. The screen appeared in Shortlist where they’re running a competition to win some of those GTA 5 pre-order viewers revealed last week, each with a “brand new, never-before-seen” screen inside. The information will be released by GameInfomer as they release their cover art of the game and all the juicy gossip inside. The digital magazine will also be on sale by tonight.

UPDATE: There are three main characters in a re-imagined Los Santos. The characters are ‘Albert De Silva’ from the first trailer (Right), the man on the jet ski above (Left)and the man from the leaked GTA pre-order art (Centre). Rockstar say that the game will use a ‘Groundbreaking’ way to control the characters. Maybe you can control all 3 Hmm. There will be more info at 8pm when the digital magazine of Game Informer goes on sale.
